Jatiya Party's Mustafizar Rahman was elected as the mayor of Rangpur City Corporation

Jatiya Party candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa has been elected as the Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation for the second time. He won by a huge margin for the second consecutive time by getting 1 lakh 46 thousand 798 votes. The ruling party candidate and former member of parliament Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa got 1 lakh 24 thousand 559 votes more than Dalia.

His nearest rival, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Amiruzzaman Piyal got 49 thousand 892 votes in Hatpakha symbol. Latifur Rahman, independent candidate of Hati symbol (rebel of Awami League) got 33 thousand 883 votes. Awami League candidate Dalia got 22 thousand 309 votes.

Returning Officer Abdul Baten announced the election results at Rangpur District Shilpakala Academy Auditorium at 12:00 PM after voting in EVMs from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on Tuesday. The voting rate is 65.88 percent. Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam, Regional Election Officer GM Sahtab Uddin and others were also present on the occasion.

After receiving the results, the jocular Mayor Mustafa said that there was no alternative to this victory to sustain the existence of the party.

It should be noted that the total number of voters in the Rangpur City Corporation election is four lakh 26 thousand 470 people. Among them, 2 lakh 12 thousand 302 male voters and 2 lakh 14 thousand 167 female voters and one Hijra voter.
